‘Cleaning QWERTZ’
"QWERTZ" by Franz West was added to the public collection of the Rotterdam Sculpture International department in 2001. Placed in a touristic downtown, the work is frequented by tourists who come for the entertainment district that is located a street away.
The shape of the work makes it attractive to sit on and relax on. The number of people that visit from the entertainment district causes a lot of litter in and around the area. This makes it very hard for the municipality to clean the artwork on a regular basis.
For this reason, I chose to clean around the sculpture. This performance was executed in 2019.
